absent

Echoes of Invisibility
Absent is a triptych of horizontal paintings that explore the feeling of being unseen, of fading into the background despite efforts to be noticed. This series reflects the emotional weight of rejection—whether in relationships, careers, or friendships—when the sense of belonging seems out of reach. Each figure in the paintings echoes this experience of absence, dissolving into their surroundings as if they are only partially there.
The Isolation of Being Out of Place
In creating these works, I connected with the deep feeling of invisibility, where it feels like everyone around you has a place, yet you remain on the outside. That sense of being the "absent" figure in the room, of wanting recognition but only meeting rejection, became the core theme of this series. It’s an emotion that is hard to articulate, but through the act of painting, I could confront and express the despair of feeling out of place.
Fading into Layers
The palette and imagery of these works came to me intuitively. I envisioned figures that, though present, would blur and fade into layers of paint—merging into foggy, almost dreamlike landscapes. They feel as though they are gradually disappearing, caught in a liminal space between existence and absence. This visual obscurity mirrors the emotional fragmentation of feeling invisible, where even our sense of self begins to blur under the weight of rejection.
